Sloss Metal Arts- Summer Youth Apprenticeship
This eight-week, paid apprenticeship employs 12-16 students, ages 16-18, to work and study under professional artists for 30 hours a week. The program is designed to expose students to a variety of metal art processes and techniques in a hands-on, individualized environment.

Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program Open House
You are invited to attend an Open House at the Bessemer Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol. You will have the opportunity to see many of the activities in which we participate, including: drones, aerospace, flight, cyber patriot, and emergency services.
WHERE: It will be held at the Bessemer Municipal Airport
WHEN: September 16 at 6:30.
WHO: We offer programs for youth ages 12-20, teachers, and adults.
WHAT: Our cadet program includes training in leadership, character, physical fitness, emergency services, and aerospace. All our cadets are able to receive free flights in a powered aircraft and a glider aircraft.
Our program for teachers gives free STEM kits to use in the classroom. Teachers can also participate in our TOPFLIGHT program and receive a free flight in a Civil Air Patrol plane.
Adults can participate in emergency services, aerospace, and cadet programs.

Anytown Alabama Teen Leadership Summit 2019
- Dates: June 2-8, 2019
- Age Group: Current 9th-11th Grade Students
- Application Deadline: March 10th for priority applicants, April 4th for final deadline
- Cost: $400 if applied by March 10th, $450 if applied after March 10th
- Scholarships: Readily available. No student will be turned away due to inability to pay

McWane Science Center Summer Volunteer Opportunities:
Who=Teen and Junior Teen Volunteers are differentiated based on age and hour requirements. If you are completing the 8th grade or higher in May 2019, then you will apply for the Summer Teen Program. If you are completing 6th or 7th grade, you will apply for the Summer Junior Teen Program.
What= Teen Volunteers present hands-on science activities and demonstration at interpretive stations and exhibits throughout our science center. Teen volunteers also help with our Summer Camps, where they have the opportunity to act as role models and mentors guiding young campers in STEM-related activities
When= June 3-August 2, 2019. During that time, volunteer shifts are available Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-6:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am-6:00 pm, and Sunday from 12:00 pm-6:00 pm.

What: Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership—it comes from helping others succeed.

Duke University Summer Session:
Information for Duke Summer Session for High School Students’ 2019 programs is now available! Choose from three transformative programs next summer:
Summer College – A four-week, credit-bearing program for students currently in 10th– 12th grade in which they take undergraduate-level courses.
Summer Academy – A three-week program for students currently in 9th – 12th grade in which they take a certificate course.
Accelerated STEM Academy – A one-week, STEM-based program for students currently in 9th – 12th grade that consists of a variety of hands-on labs, tours of Duke’s research facilities, faculty lectures, and workshops.
11th Grade Girls ONLY:
Distinguished Young Women of Jefferson County is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership, and talent in young women.
Cash scholarships are awarded at the local level and millions in college-granted scholarships are available ($1.5 billion nationally). And local winners will advance to the state program in Montgomery, Alabama where they give away more than $42,500 in cash tuition scholarships.
